On 3/2/07, I changed the naming structure of the article URL's on IdeaMarketers to include the title in the URL of each article. For example:
http://www.ideamarketers.com/?Is_Your_Business_Under_Fire&articleid=137947
When Google re-indexed the articles on 3/4/07, it took about 3 days for the new URL's to start showing up in the Google Registry. The tables below are the search results as of 3/7/07 at around 8:00 a.m. ET for the articles that were on the home page of IdeaMarketers as of 3/4/07.
As you scan through these, you'll notice that most come up in the #1 position. Those that came up lower, generally are new bids. It appears longevity plays a role - first Google indexes the page the article is featured on (for example the IdeaMarketers home page or channel page). Then the next crawl it makes, it follows those links to the articles themselves. The longer the article is on the home page, the higher it comes up. Those that are older bids, but still aren't coming up high are using common phrases for their titles like, "Law of Morality," "Ghost of a Chance" or "Keep the Passion Alive"
Another thing I noticed is that while some of the articles were picked up with the new URL that included the title in it, several were still linking to the old URL without the title included. It appears it takes some time for Google to fully spider and register the pages.
* links to home page of ideamarketers where the article resides
** Links to the IdeaMarketers channel page where the article resides
A dash (-) means I couldn't find a result in the first 5 pages of Google results.
