Guest Blogger, Mr. Blue, author of True Blue Leadership: Top 10 Tricks from the Top Motivational Hound
Ok, so I'm a dog. But I've written a book and have grown up listening to the great speakers and authors of our time (Ken Blanchard, Zig Ziglar, and Mark Sanborn, to name a few). They were my pals of my late grand"pa," Charlie "Tremendous" Jones. Believe me, I know a thing or two about business and leadership. I call a good leader a True Blue Leader, and it's ruff to be one.
Sometimes, when you own your own business, dealing with your own people can be the ruffest part. How about the disengaged employee? The True Blue Leader must realize that disengaged employees can be downright destructive. These are the ones who are busy acting out their misery, you know, tearing apart the couch when you're out of sight. And while some may do it actively, others may commence such despicable behavior in the shadows.
Throughout your life, there will be people (or canines, in my case) who come alongside of you professionally, personally, maybe even spiritually or financially, who will represent to you that they are your biggest advocate of all but in the end try to tear apart everything you stand for. This happened to my mom, Tracey Jones, several times, and I licked a lot of tears from her face when it did. But we knew one thing for sure--what David Breindley said was true: "A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him." I've built a whole doghouse out of them! And you can, too.
