    A Little Night Music

Have you ever had one of those days where you just have the blah’s and nothing you could think to do would seem “fun” to you? Even if you had all the money in the world and could go spend a day on a beach in Hawaii, or at Disney World or visit Paris, it still wouldn’t seem fun to you because you’ve just got the blah’s. I had one of those days last month. As a matter of fact, I would have worried about myself because, generally, I’m not a “down” personality. I’d just about written this ill mood off to hormones, but still, it had me a little unnerved and depressed.

Anyway, my husband and I were driving down the road that evening and an old song from the 80’s came on the radio that reminded me of summers that my family used to spend in South Carolina on Lake Murray. You know how you can hear an old song and you’re back in time? All the sights, sounds, smells, and feelings come back so thick that they almost feel tangible. When this happened that evening, instantly I was happy. I knew what would be “fun” to me… night fishing and motor boating on Lake Murray with my family all around me. It didn’t matter that it was in the past, I was just relieved that I could think of something – anything that seemed fun to me.

Music has such a profound effect on our lives. So many of my memories are triggered by music. A few days later, when I set out to write my next ebook for CleanRomanceClub, the first scene naturally came out of me set at Lake Murray, South Carolina. Whenever I write a story, I generally have no idea where it’s going. I just start with a character and a scene and as the characters evolve and make decisions, so evolves the story.

In “A Little Night Music,” Myles Ashcroft is a musician who arrives at Lake Murray, South Carolina after many years' absence and is carried back in time with memories of his family summers there. His memories are in essence my memories, his personality and passion for music is based on my nephew, but the story that unfolds is uniquely an evolution of the two main characters. What starts out as a little night music for Myles, turns into a mysterious web of intrigue, murder, conspiracy, and a twist of heart-stopping romance. I’m putting the finishing touches on it now and it should be ready for release the 25th of July. I hope you enjoy it!
